Liberty or Death

Main Idea

  • Game where death is acceptable (not a "lose" condition)
  • You lose by getting trapped

Actual mechanics ideas

  • Hex tile based.
  • Tiles recharge while you are not on them.
  • Tiles drain while you are on them.
  • Getting caught on a drained tile is how you lose.
  • There is no stopping (well, enemies can block you but you can't stop on your own). Only changing direction.
  • Other characters serve as obstacles to that.

Enemy Ideas

  • Oblivious ones that just wander across the screen
  • Black Holes that follow slowly but pull you in
  • Ones with arms outstretched to block you from going
  • Fast, small ones
  • Versions of the above that try to get ahead of you, that try to follow, and that move randomly
  • Killers that run away from you
  • Killers that repel you
  • Killers that move quickly but in short bursts
  • Walls that don't move, but grow in one direction

Scoring

  • Draining hexes makes the score go up
  • score indicator - bar that goes up. When it gets full you get a circle. When you get 5 circles, you get a little star. When you get 5 little stars, you get a big star. When you get 5 big stars, you get an exclamation point.
